From the art opening at Gossamer last night, Mother of the Child and 24 other artists knitted/felted/sculpted a coral reef. This installation is scheduled to move to OMSI in December, I believe.

Beautiful! My personal favorite is the octopus. Brings me back to living in the Northwest, when I made a refrigerator box sized diorama each year with my students of the Puget Sound rocky bottom environment. I miss those days.

Thanks for the pictures!

As a reef keeper... I heartily approve. These are a lot easier to care for than any corals I've had.

Funny, to me at least, I think I've identified some of the species knitted.

Very lovely. And cleaver. Amazing what one can do with a bit of yard and felt. :)

I'm not a believer in the collective mind, but I have to tell you, this stunned me.

I (thought I) came up with the idea to do this on my way to work today. Over the course of the 45 minute walk, I puzzled over how I could crochet/knit/whatever yarn into coral reef shapes that would stand up, how I could make it a "throw" that would drape over my couch, and how many tiny jellyfish and seastar pillows would be "too many."

...Then I come home and see this. Those glands on top of my kidneys are squirting all over my bloodstream in a confused panic.

SERIOUSLY, what are the CHANCES?!
