Madness of Flowers — A write-up, with cover art, from Night Shade Books.

APOD with a panoramic view of moonrise and sunset — Nice photo. Kind of wide.

Language Log on the Atlas of True Names — This is fascinating, and more than a bit sfnal in its way.

Single-Celled Giant Upends Early Evolution — This story is weird on several levels. Also, an example of science’s processes of self-correction which the IDiots and Creationists may well seize on as evidence of the falsity of evolution.

Question of the day: Han Solo or James T. Kirk? Discuss.

Totally Han Solo, but that may just be because I'm slightly too young to remember Shatner as young and hot.

Cells: They may try, but it's just a reinterpretation of something we were guessing at anyway ("what we saw in the rocks").

Question: Both. At the same time.

amoeba: I must be naive not to appreciate the trail-leaving thing, which is apparently awesome, as much as be astonished at an amoeba out there that large. I did find this forum where role-playing with gromia sphaerica is discussed.

Kirk or Solo: Solo. Han Solo is basically Kirk minus the government job and plus a talking dog. Kirk gets the better ride, though.
