Enter the Octopus receives a review copy of Green — Unsurprising, since I sent it to him...

James Gurney quoting dioramist James Perry Wilson — Another one of Gurney's fascinating posts on art and illustration, which I find highly applicable to the processes of fiction.

100 cereal box covers — The wallpaper of our childhoods, at least those of us who grew up around supermarkets — e.g., not me. (Snurched from Found in Mom's Basement.)

Building a 1:1 scale model of a spaceship — (Snurched from Dark Roasted Blend.)

The science of fiction ...for the first time in history there is now scientific evidence that reading fiction really does have psychological benefits. (Thanks to [info]gauroth.)

SMS: Save my language... — Language geekery by way of text messaging. Interesting confluence of culture and technology. (Thanks to [info]brendacooper.)

Israeli PM Ehud Olmert Claims to be Able to Order Bush Around — Interesting stuff, if true. The fact that the claim even seems credible is a tragic comment on the Bush administration. Admittedly, one tragic comment in a thundering chorus of Republican tragedy, but still...

Countries that will miss George Bush — They forgot Palin's "real America" on this list. Which is to say, the part of America that thinks economic collapse is a good thing so long as taxes go down, that torture is a patriotic value which strengthens our national character, and that the only amendment which matters is the Second.

?otD: What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson?

That's be a neat trick on Olmert's part since he can't even order parliament to do what he wants.

Kind of my thought, too, actually. On the other hand, American conservative thinking about Israel is a lot more simplistic than even the usual nuance-free blather that passes for ideas on the Right, so it's actually possible Olmert has more sway in Washington than in Tel Aviv.

Thinking? I suspect that you are being generous in applying that term to the sternutations of people like Krauthammer.

I, on the other hand, have eaten a lot of those cereals from those boxes. Some favs: BooBerry, Pink Panther Flakes, and Cookie Crisp.

ah, sugar-filled youth...

Aw, no Kaboom? Was Fruit Brute in there? I might've missed it.
But they've got King Vitamin! I loved that stuff.

Fruit Brute was indeed there, about halfway down, above Honeycomb.

I remember Fruit Brute, though I wasn't much of a fan...
