Study: Organic food turns people into jerks — Heh. Who knew? (Snurched from @jackwilliambell.)

Amazing how the liberals even manage to get tree rings and coral reefs onto the climate change conspiracy. Good thing we have the GOP to remind us that the truth isn't before our lying eyes.

Legal Experts: Sodomy Is a Civil Right — Unfortunately, so is bigotry. And hypocrisy. (Via [info]danjite.)

Gay Marriage: The Republican Love Affair With the PastIn 2005 the Supreme Court made sodomy legal in all 50 states and since then there have been absolutely no reports of anyone turning into a pillar of salt. To be fair to the conservative viewpoint, we've all seen how places like Canada and Massachusetts have collapsed into apocalyptic Socialist hells since the advent of gay marriage. I mean, just look at the divorce rates in Massachusetts compared to the good, American gay-hating Red states. Oh, wait, never mind.

I want to know which large agrobusiness conglomerate funded the research on attitudes and organic food. Because it comes with a strong whiff of astroturf.

Study: Organic food turns people into jerks

This is why I dislike shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's (beyond some political reasons) even though I'm interested in some of the products they carry: in most locations of either store I visit, especially Whole Foods, I feel like I'm surrounded by jerks the entire time I'm in the store -- falsely self-righteous jerks, to boot, the sort of people who have driven their SUVs to pay a premium at a grocery store where they will buy mostly more expensively branded iterations of the same crap they'd buy elsewhere instead of making a real effort to buy socially or environmentally conscientious items. It's a similar feeling to the one I get when someone orders a ridiculous polysyllabic beverage at a coffee shop, multiplied by multitudes.

Reading the paragraph I just wrote, though, I suspect that I'm the jerk. :D

the "organic food jerk", i've run into those on all manner of behaviours, from cyclists to yoga enthusiasts to church goers, and the like. If someone gets it into their lizard brain that they're doing something "better", for whatever standard of better they're using, some people just use it as licence to look down at someone else.

i used to shop at a store that the locals always sneered at for "expensive yuppy produce", but heh. I was never buying organic, so it was ASSUMED I was judging them.
