Interesting pieces on the Erasmus program. While I was in LIthuania visiting skidspoppe, I met a number of students who talked about applying for the Erasmus program. It's seen as a way out for a lot of people and, of course, as a fantastic opportunity in terms of education and career. While I envied the opportunity these kids had to travel internationally while thy were still young and making decisions about who they wanted to become in such a context, the broader implications didn't occur to me until I read this article, though I did find myself thinking about a point that markferrari made to me recently about how today's youth are so much less risk averse and are thereby more interested in being citizens of the world. The world is changing before our eyes via significant social evolution. I hope world leaders are paying attention; if they're not (and they probably aren't), they're going to be in for a rude surprise.

I seem to think I've encountered a Calvinist dystopia in my readings somewhere. Not to the degree that slacktivist depicts, but awfully damned close. Might have been in my religious readings. Not sure. I'll have to poke around.

And the Bishop? Um, I've read Spong's work. I've got issues, but it's been a while. Plus my understanding is based more on Zoroastrian influence creeping into pre-Common Era Judaism rather than later influences.

Still, interesting food for thought this morning, especially the grand jury stuff. DS has been called for one of those as a juror.
