Vandals admit muffin-crystal-thingie assault at Serpent Mound — Wow. Weird shit. Not to mention proof positive that destructive religious fruitcakery isn't a strictly right wing problem. (Via [info]danjite.)

11 Hilarious Photos Depicting How Wives Should Undress in Front of their Husbands, Circa 1937 — Wow. Hahahah. (Via Lisa Costello.)

Missing gamma rays were abducted by light from the first stars — The story is serious astrophysics neepery, but I love the headline.

How Cities Plan to Keep the Sea at Bay in an Age of Climate Change

White Man Date — More on the identity politics of white people who don't consider themselves to be practicing identity politics.

The Party of Strom Thurmond: Not all X are Y, but all Y are XSlacktivist Fred Clark with a lengthy roundup of links documenting Republican racism in their own words. (Well, except for one link, which is satire.) Yep, if you vote Republican, this is what you're voting for, woven deep in the fabric of your party and its candidates. Not some wild strain at the margins, but core conservative cultural DNA. Are you proud of your Republican party?

Poll: Most Republicans believe in demonic possessionMeanwhile, less than half think humans are responsible for climate change. Lunacy. Literally so. In half the American electorate. Couple with flat denial of objective reality. I weep for our country.

Fox News Redefines Unbalanced By Giving Romney 80 Percent More Airtime — Fair and balanced. Yep.

Romney, Obama turn bipartisan — at least in their pitches — Gee, we know what happened the last time Obama tried that. Scorched earth opposition from the GOP and their top priority being making him a one term president. Not jobs, not national security, not the economy. Stonewall partisanship. On the other hand, we also know what kind of bipartisanship we had under Bush. So who do you believe?

Top Ten Coming Disasters: Romney’s America 2016 — A little bit over the top, but most of this follows quite logically from GOP positions (and whatever can be distinguished from Romney's constantly flip-flopping rhetoric — BTW, remember when Kerry ran for president and Republicans hated flip-floppers? Nah, neither do they.), and wouldn't actually be considered disasters by American conservatives.

?otD: Voted yet? Or are you waiting for tomorrow?
Bonus ?otD for non-USAnians: Who would you vote for if you were a US voter?

Voted last week by absentee Maryland ballot, voting among other things *for* Question 6, to allow same-sex marriage. Not happy that civil rights are being put to referendum, but there you go ...

We're doing the same thing here in Washington. It was passed by the legislature, then a referendum to put it on the ballot got enough signatures, so here we are.

I do so hope it passes (that we get to keep marriage equality -- the wording of the referendum makes it yes to keep, no to ban). It doesn't affect me directly, but it Matters. Greatly.

Just saw the Serpent Mound over the summer. As the artifact is a snaking mound of earth, burying crystal muffins in it isn't going to affect it much.
