I offer a meme, taken from [info]suricattus, who got it from [info]kate_elliot.

Tell me about a story I haven’t written, and I’ll give you one sentence from that story.

This was worse than those damned transgenic gills when I had to do the catering for the Cetacean Treaty of 2047.

That one time, at the cafe in Athens, in April 2017?

Shortly after that, we discovered that ouzo did not in fact inhibit runaway nanotech; it did, however, render the stuff far more flammable -- this was not generally considered an improvement.

The new parliament in Greece had enough problems without random nano-infused cafe patrons bursting into flames.

"Phil, you simply cannot reroute the tachyon guide tubing to make a brew vat; all safety and survival considerations aside, it makes the beer flow backwards through your system."

Most excellent! I was just telling my PHYS-1150 class not 2.5 hours ago about tachyons. (grin) Made their brains hurt: If I sent you a tachyon message, you'd get it before I sent it. If you sent me a receipt by tachyon, I'll get that before I send the first message. Q: What power on Earth will compel me to now send that first message? (evil grin)

Thanks, Jay!

Dr. Phil

There was a neat short story about aliens from a planet with no axial tilt, so they had no concept of seasons, who discover Earth and visit...

Oh, and how about that alternative history story in which states are free (in theory and in practice) to secede from the US...? ;)

"This week in Name the States, we have Eastern South Dakota (reformed) petitioning for re-re-readmission to the Union, but there's some long odds against it according to the Vegas bookmakers due to their hard line stance on deepwater nuclear capabilities, and, of course, the Hoho Scandal."
