For black Americans, justice with an asterisk — Welcome to Republican America, where gun rights count more than civil rights and Stand Your Ground privileges the shooters.

Stand Your Ground Increases Racial Bias in “Justifiable Homicide” Trials — And so we are all safer with guns. Especially those of us who are conservative white men. Sarah Palin's Real Americans.

Obama's day: Honoring George H.W. BushPresident Obama spends part of Monday paying tribute one of his Republican predecessors. I will bet $100 right now that no Republican president in the next 40 years will ever do anything of this kind for Obama in turn.

Thanks for the link about the treasure hunters and the gold coins. Great stuff. I have to admit, though, that while watching the video, I cringed at how the sailor was pouring the coins back and forth between his hands, because while he was enthusing over the sound of the gold, all I could think was, "Ahhhh! Condition! You're scratching up the coins, ruining their beauty, and making them worth less! STOP IT!" :-)

I can't comment on most of the journal snarking, but the one for Synthesis is spot on. Those people are scary. Google for "Chemicals I won't work with," and read through the unbelievably explosive stuff that one lab in Germany loves to play with. "I'd ask for all the chemists who've ever played with hexanitro compounds to raise their hands, but that assumes too much about the limbs-to-chemists ratio."
