This week includes an appointment with my palliative care doctor, my usual weekly therapy appointment, an appointment at the funeral home to negotiate the contract for my final arrangements, two medical appointments for a family member which I shall be attending, another string of phone calls regarding our efforts to engage a clinical trial at NIH, significant travel planning for that trip, an effort to reconstruct my Quicken data due to a file error sometime back, plus all the usual business of life. Plus whatever crises du jour emanate as the week unfolds. Because there is always another fucking crisis.

Really, it doesn't slow down much. I'm tired already, and this is only Monday morning.

I wish my sister had a palliative care doctor instead of or in addition to an oncologist who thinks her claim that she's too nauseated to eat means she's not trying hard enough. So she's starving.

Your sister needs a new oncologist yesterday. That borders on medical malpractice. In fact, I would complain to the state medical licensing board as well as to whichever national organization certifies oncologists as a specialty.

Here, btw, for oncology certification.

http://www.abim.org/online/contact.aspx

There's no excuse in the world to leave nausea untreated, let alone to be so cruel about it. That is abuse, not medicine. There are plenty of perfectly effective drugs, and a lot of good ways to deal with dietary needs even in the face of dreadful GI side effects.

I would also complain to the hospital or clinic where the oncologist practices, and maybe also the state attorney general's consumer protection division.

report them to your State Medical Board for malpractice.
