As stated yesterday, I am done with LiveJournal, due to their Byzantine spam suppression policies making it impossible for me to build Link Salad posts here any more.

For today's blogging, including Link Salad, Moment of Zen, a detailed discussion of the LiveJournal spam suppression issue, and comments on today's visit to NIH, please see my WordPress blog at jlake.com/blog.

Once I am certain of the disposition of this LiveJournal, I will make an appropriate announcement. Meanwhile, if it is useful to you, there is an existing LiveJournal RSS feed of my WordPress blog under another handle, [info]feedjaylake.

They're all shit in their own way. I quit Wordpress after they plastered advertisements for meat all over my vegan blog.

Happily, I host my own WordPress instance, and am thus advertising free.

autopope won't allow Word Press on the server due to something it requires being basically a bunch of security vulnerabilities. For the sites we host ourselves, we have a somewhat hacked about with version of Movable Type. Alas, I have yet to get round to switching the vegan blog to it.

Wordpress has a lot of issues out of the box, although I think they've gotten a bit better with security of late, still the list of things I have to do to an install before i'm even willing to use it is too long, and each plugin runs like its own separate application with global privileges. I had to write my own xss plugin too. Feh.

Have you looked at static site generators like Jekyll or Octopress? Those are supposed to be quite secure. Don't know how well they run a blog though, or what the options in PHP look like.

Theory says I've now subscribed to your WordPress blog, so should be able to follow you there, too.

Link added, thank you. I have been having issues w. posting photos and did not have the brain to investigate more as to why it was no longer working as it has long worked. Ugh.

I always say I'll be here on LJ, one of the last, and will turn off the lights and lock the door as I leave and it seems that might be sooner than expected.
