I charted the table from my last post on rejections.

Distribution of Rejections Over Time

(It's mistitled, it should be "Distribution of Responses Over Time", but I'm too busy to go back and recreate it right now.)

It's like a rainbow of rejection.

But a steadily improving rainbow of rejection!

What would be interesting to see is how many of the 'rejection, send more' actually resulted in later publications based on sending more. Great graph, thanks for posting this information. It's always helpful.

I think you and I both know that you have a geekly duty to show that chart with all the years, not just 3 of the years.

Also, can you make "Rejection, send more" be cornflower blue?

"Kind of a geek"???

:D

I will never be able to perform this kind of analysis. Unfortunately, each rejection initially appears to read: "Dear Loser, you suck."

So I carefully file it away in... the nearest dark hole. Five years later I'll find it while looking for something else, and see that it wasn't quite so bad. I can only guess how many are still lost!

Wow. Geekery beyond belief. To think that I didn't do that. I've got less than seventy rejections...I could rate them. Anything is better than writing more stuff to get rejected.

Thanks for the encouragement that even rejections could have positive side effects.

Wow, that's an eye-opener! These are for percentages of submissions, right? So 75% of your subs are not accepted, but may be later?

This is rather late, but I wanted to say thanks for posting this chart, as well as your discussions of your route to publication. I find myself Googling for it every couple months, so I finally tagged it as a "memory" and thought I should say how cool it is. Much appreciated.
