I took Princess Mononoke off the table after yesterday's previews. (And thank you one and all for the extensive comments on the anime thread -- lots of good information there.) Today the_child and I watched Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro. She liked Castle just fine, and went gaga-ballistic over Totoro. I've now seen that movie four times in the last two days. Tomorrow she's watching it with her mother.

Next up, I think, will be Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away. After that, I'll preview Howl's Moving Castle and start dipping into some of the recommendations.

In other news, tillyjane and sister Edith had a lovely joint birthday party. The Niece was charming as ever. I extended my lazy day into today, I'm afraid. Back to the keyboard tomorrow. The buyer's home inspection is on Tuesday, that will be a big step.

Y'all play nice for a while. I'm going to sleep.

Now do we mention the full-sized nekobus in the Ghibli museum that kids can crawl around in?

Don't forget Porco Rosso if you're doing Miyazaki.

Agreeing with catsparx above. Porco Rosso is my favorite Miyazaki film, though it has fewer fantasy elements (besides the main character's being a WWI ace turned into a talking, bi-pedal pig) than most of his other films. In tone, it's somewhat similar to Kiki's. Parents will dig the Casablanca homages.

My daughter liked Nausica as much as Kiki and Spirited Away.

And don't forget The Cat Returns for more Studio Ghibli fun!

Totoro will always be my favorite. It's the first one I saw, and it stole my heart. :)

Ah, to have the experience of watching Totoro for the first time again. I'm jealous. I'm very glad she enjoyed it so much! (Kiki's and Spirited are my next most favorites ... sweet and beautiful.)

Howl's Moving Castle is a horrible, awful, senseless corruption of a lightweight-but-ok Diana Wynne Jones novel. Confusing and overlong, it seems to have been rewritten by several schizophrenics in a tartan factory. Not worth it.

I have still not seen Totoro, but adored Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service.
