Available Emblems of Belief for Placement on Government Headstones and Markers — some religions there I've never heard of (which makes it difficult for me to understand the government's objection to a Wiccan symbol as anything but pure prejudice), but check out the Atheist symbol

I remember the SNAFU about the Wiccan soldier who couldn't get his religious symbol placed on his headstone; if I recall correctly, the family claimed religious prejudice, but the Dept. of Veteran Affairs said that it was a matter of getting the paperwork approved.

At any rate, according to your link, there is a Wiccan symbol available now.

Erm, yes, I was unclear on the link comment -- the Wiccan symbol was approved this past week after about four years of appeals and lawsuits, apparently based on strong White House opposition to allowing it.

Ten years.

Link to Washington Post article

It should have only taken three months. I wonder if someone has already put in for a FSM symbol?

I would rather neither Wiccan soldiers nor Christians nor anyone else be in the position to need a tombstone. That's all I can think when I read about that story.

I agree with your precept, but FYI, this does include people dying from non-military related things (like old age).

Good point. I'm pro-immortality in general. As for me, I am going to live forever or die trying.

The way that the shells, which are devoid of pigment, absorb and reflect differs from other surfaces because they are discriminatory.

Cool article about how some New World beetles; coloration and how it could theoretically improve the quality of LCD screens. Neato.

This is the tombstone symbol I wanted, but it was a no-go, so instead of joining the army, I became a hippie.

I think that is the cult symbol of the sister cities of Sweet Home and Prineville, Oregon. I'm sure they'd let you join.

What is up with the last two religious emblems on the list being under copyright? That seems terribly odd to me. Or is it that they are custom-designed emblems for this particular purpose and the artist won't allow them on the web? Hmm. Weird, anyway.

Also, that's not the Atheist emblem. It's the emblem for Moleculo, the Molecular Man!

Molecule Man didn't have an emblem. In fact, now that he's a cosmic cube (along with the Beyonder), he doesn't even have a body...

Man, I feel like such a nerd now...

Heh. Not Molecule Man, Moleculo, as played by Conan O'Brien on Saturday Night Live.

Yeah, the atheist symbol is seriously lame.

It made me think of Watchmen, chapter IV, page 12. Dr. Manhattan is given a dorky looking helmet with a similarly lame retro symbol of an atom with several ellipses around it.
"What's this symbol stand for?"

"Uh, well, it means, like, atoms, atomic power, like that..."

"It's meaningless. A hydrogen atom would be more appropriate. I don't think I shall be wearing this."

"B-but that's the only place where your symbol shows! The marketing boys say you need a symbol..."

It seems to be hard to come up with a good symbol for atheism...

How about just leaving the symbol location blank? Though I suppose if they are militant atheists (couldn't resist) perhaps the lack of a religious symbol would not be deemed adequate. Come to think of it, maybe it's best that the blank be left for the agnostics?

Or perhaps agnostics don't need any special approved graphic symbol; they can just use the ordinary question mark "?"... presumably it would be clear they are not actually worshippers of Batman's enemy The Riddler.

I don't know how to post a photo here, so I'll just direct you to my journal......check out the gallery of Places I'd Like to be Buried or Scattered. I'm sure that reference guide left out something.
