Saturday hath passed in a blur. Ran to the dump very early (well, drove), then breakfast with karindira, then some family time with tillyjane, her sister, the_child and my, erm, second cousins? (Cousin's children.) Then home to do a bunch of furniture assembly stuff.

The home office here in Nuevo Rancho Lake should be in working order sometime around midday tomorrow. At that point regular wit and erudition will resume here on this blog. The management apologizes for the indifferent service of late.

Tomorrow: cat updates (it looks like it's ending well), Con and travel photos, and the_child's comments on why death is like a crayon.

D'oh, I've been scooped.

Anyhoo, the_child is your cousin's children's second cousin.

Subject: Cousinhood
Cousinhood rule:

(1) Count the number of generations, on EACH side, back to the most recent common ancestor.

(2) The SMALLER number, minus 1, gives you "first cousins" if the common ancestor is one person's grandparent, "second cousins" if it's a great-grandparent. (If the result is zero, the person is not your cousin. It's a sibling, niece/nephew, or aunt/uncle.)

(3) The DIFFERENCE in the numbers is the removal. So if the common ancestor is your grandfather but the kids' great-grandfather, there's a difference of 1 generation and they are "once removed".

Just in case you care that much.
