It's Friday the 13th! Time for another poll. Apparently, up to $750 million in lost productivity occurs due to fear of this date. Man, isn't it great living in the 14th century!?

No, wait...

Poll #1020695 Friday the 13th

Are you afraid of Friday the 13th? Why?

Of course I am. All sensible people should be.
3(3.1%)
Yes. This is the day the undead emerge from their graves. If they see their own shadows, there's another six weeks of Apocalypse. Except for the vampires.
13(13.5%)
Are you kidding? It's Mondays that scare the water out of me.
29(30.2%)
Muahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!
12(12.5%)
I love Friday the 13th. I also spill salt on black cats under ladders whenever I can. And comb my hair in a broken mirror.
27(28.1%)
Grow up Lake, and do a serious poll.

I, having been born on a Fryday the 13th, would think it a lucky day if I believed in such things.

thirdworld also was born on Friday the 13th! So I also would have to agree it to be a lucky day, especially for me.

I've never had a problem with the day, but my mom won't even drive on F13s.

Fridays and 13 (IIRC) are sacred to Freya, which is how it's become a negative in our Western/Christian culture.

We Italians think 13 is a lucky number. The very first gift I received when I was born was a gold bracelet from my great-grandmother in Sicily with a 13 on it. 13 is also the sum of the month and day of my birth, so the day is no biggie as far as I'm concerned.

I smooched my black cat when he crossed my path this morning (more like played Trip the Human).

When a friend learned that we have two black cats, he said excitedly, "They must cross each other's paths all the time!" It doesn't seem to have caused them any problems.

I would have voted for I love Friday the 13th, but I loved the undead thing too much.

It would mean 40% less Apocalypse here in the often-cloudy Pacific Northwest!

For some reason, Friday the 13th has either been a good day for me, or just a normal one. I started the current book on the last Friday the 13th wondering if I could turn that past good luck in my favor; so far I've only written 10 chapters, but that's mainly been a lesson about why I don't write novels in the summertime, rather than owing to any bad luck. (In fact most of the writing time that's been eaten up has gone to good things, like traveling and visiting friends.)

My name is Jason, 13 was my lucky number when I had one, and I once played goalie in gym hockey. What do you think? *g*

Also, I was dating a Tina when the "Jason vs. Tina" one came out.

Just hand me the machete . . .

I don't usually notice this day at all... but around me today, people seem to be having some serious bad luck. For example, the woman I was walking to work with got hit in the nose by a falling walnut.

Hm.

I wouldn't sit next to me, if I were me.

Back when I had braces, I always had orthodontist's appointments every Friday the 13th. Orthodontia is sufficient justification for triskaidekaphobia.

It's actually always been my lucky day. Of course, I also own a black cat - though at 16 yrs old she is more of a roan these days than anything. She doesn't so much cross my path as sit full-on athwart the middle of it.

My favorite story is of my high school Algebra test on Friday the 13th on the 13th chapter of the text, with 13 questions, that I aced out of hand. As a T-shirt I saw the other day said: Come over to the dark side; we have cookies.

Today is also my mother's birthday. She's 73 now, which means I'll be 48 next month. None of those things scare me, either.

Hmmm, with a USB stick in the toilet, the belt on the vacuum cleaner split, locked out of the house, my spare car key cracked and having left the directions and prepared materials to my first meeting back in the house, it started well. Yours?

I had the ambition once of opening an umbrella inside, under a ladder with a black cat on it, thereby smashing a mirror - on Friday the 13th.
Never did it, but there's still time! I guess I should've gone with "Mwahahahahahaha" but anyway.
