I have just learned that I will be presenting the Hugo for Best Editor, Short Form, at Nippon 2007.

(I believe I will also be doing something as yet unspecified in connection with presenting the Campbell Tiara.)

You know, this may well be one of the high geek moments of my life.

One of the high geek moments of your life so far.

You haven't had your ass grabbed by George Takei yet!

I mean, that I know of.

So I guess neither of recipients of those 2006 awards could make it to Japan, and you were chosen to stand in their stead? That's some excellent honorage, my man.

As a note, I hear you have to make a reservation to have your ass grabbed by George Takei. At least, that's what the folks from HEROES said :-)

Actually, the Best Editor, Short Form Hugo Award has never been presented before. This is the first year after ratification of a constitutional amendment splitting the Best Professional Editor category into Best Editor, Short Form and Best Editor, Long Form. So Jay gets to start a new category. Yay, Jay!

Also, the person who won Best Professional Editor last year (David Hartwell) is nominated in both the Short Form and Long Form editor categories this year, so it wouldn't be appropriate for him to be presenting the Hugo Award in the same category. Only Isaac Asimov could ever pull that off.

You have just given me in the idea I need for my (very brief) introductory remarks while presenting.

Thank you.

Oops, missed that point. The Short Form / Long Form split seems logical. Color me clued in.

The chance to present a Hugo to someone will definitely be an awesome experience. Enjoy!

Awesome! Have fun over there. Do you know how many US folks are going to the pre-Nippon 2007 event in China? Only David Brin and Betty Hull, as far as I know.

That's cool! I had wanted to go to Japan, but I'll have to wait to pop my WorldCon cherry until next year.
