Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day — Deeply cool. Be sure to read the description.

The history of Rocket Mail

Cringe words — Weird. I had no idea this phenomenon existed, let alone was common.

More from Freakonomics on raw talent and developed skill.

The sprint of the Hubbard glacier — Old news, in the sense of being historical. And fascinating. Who knew there were tidewater glaciers?

Interesting comments thread at my post last night about managing detail during the novel writing process

Jesus, people are weird when it comes to words. I'm glad no one I know has one of these. I'd be forced to work it into every conversation I had with them, just for kicks.

"Say, Bob, did you watch Sopranos last night? You missed a good moist fist panties gut scene."

Now that I think about it, the most of them I string together, the creepier it sounds! Hahaha

That astronomy picture is way COOL, isn't it!

I have few cringe words -- moist has never been one of them. I think most of my cringe words are genetic, from my mom's side. Heh heh.

I've come to embrace many of the words I cringed at in my youth. I think, in part, because I am a writer. I appreciate words more. Their shape, where they came from, the effect they have on others, including their ability to make others cringe. (evil grin)

Thanks for these, Jay.
