Star Wars toys that never made it

Sentence parsing for the grammatically nefarious — A linguist gets funny with a quote. Also a very brief discussion of the anomalously anarthrous nature of the noun in the phrase "Abandon ship."

Spines, Made Extra Curvy for Women — You have to love a story that starts out with the phrase, "Pregnant women do not tip over..."

The Pope condemns the climate change prophets of doom

A Republican actually says something I agree with — McCain, in the Iowa debates today:
Suppose that climate change is not real and all we do is adopt green technologies, which our economy and our technology is perfectly capable of. Then all we've done is given our kids a cleaner world. But suppose they are wrong. Suppose they are wrong and climate change is real and we've done nothing. What kind of a planet are we going to pass on to the next generation of Americans?

Good for him.

McCain has flashes of sanity. But they never last long in the heat of "I really want to be President, no matter what."

The Star Wars toys are hilarious. So are the Pope's words. Well, not hilarious so much as ironic, since he's saying we need to rely on science, not dogma.

I don't understand why the Pope is weighing in on this, and inasmuch as he is doing so, why he is weighing in on what is so clearly and objectively the wrong side of the issue.

The McCain quote is the first thing I've heard out of the man in . . . ever . . . that I can cheer without reservation. And it makes me nostalgic for a golden age that possibly never existed, when it was possible to respect candidates on the other side without agreeing with their positions.

Pardon my cynicism, but did no one else notice that McCain intends to pass the entire PLANET on only to Americans?

Yes, we are a big noisy smelly country, but we don't own the planet.

Hmm. I could use that "force" to battle Darth Perky right now...
Love all the links, but I think the language guy has just a bit too much time on his hands, hmm, I could already see where he would go with that statement.
