Children are targets of Nigerian witch hunt — "Evangelical pastors are helping to create a terrible new campaign of violence against young Nigerians. Children and babies branded as evil are being abused, abandoned and even murdered while the preachers make money out of the fear of their parents and their communities." Re: Nigerian Witch Hunts

Isn't this what Falwell, 700 Club, and others used to do when they preached against Rock Music, D&D, and other stuff -- just call something (anything!) evil so your followers will believe you and pay you more money.

Rule by creating delusional fear is nothing new. It's the primary mode of American Politics -- the Conservatives having delusional fears about the Liberals (and even a little happening the other way round). Hell, what about McCarthyism and Domino theory?

Money, or perhaps more generally, a combination of greed and pride for which money is the scorekeeping mechanism.

Please, somebody tell this to Huckabee, Romney and the Pope.

I'm assuming you mean, "Tell Huckabee, Romney, and the Pope that secularism is not the root of all evil."

I can't speak for Protestantism or Roman Catholicism-- but Mormonism very clearly indicts greed and classism as enormously destructive forces.
