I rarely if ever make myself cry as I'm writing, but I suppose it's a good thing when I do.

Meanwhile, like my poor character, I soldier onward.

I hear you. It doesn't happen often to me, either, but when it does, that's usually good prose there.

My brother once walked in on me writing and gasped, "What's wrong?" I hadn't realized that I'd been so deep into writing my angsty scene that I looked as stricken as my characters.

Hmm. Maybe that's why my wife says I look dead when I'm done writing. I've been killing too many named characters.

That's excellent news. The only thing I've ever written that made me cry was the ending of "Tale of the Golden Eagle."

Perhaps your subconscious had somehow heard that Huckabee had won the Iowa caucus?

My first reaction to that news was: "Well, the Democrats are probably salivating over the possibility of running against Huckabee in the general election."

But then my wife made the point that they were probably salivating over the prospect of running against George W. Bush. And look what happened there...

This is going to be a wild one, me thinks.

Last night, I wrote the saddest paragraph I have ever written. I totally wasn't expecting it to be. I just wrote it and started bawling. Couldn't figure out where it came from. Then I read it again and realized, oh _that's_ where that came from. And cried some more. Then called it quits for the day to go eat chocolate.

Writing as therapy. Heh.

That's a good sign.

Although the last time I did that one of my critiquers didn't want to go on reading after that point (I sort of killed off her favorite character), so it's a double-edged sword ...
