Self-published novel fetches $2MM in auction — Alright. That's it. I'm done telling people to do it the hard way.

US man jailed for removing 500 trees spoiling his view — The threat letters didn't help much either.

The Guardian on Fahrenheit 451 — (Thanks to AH.)

MacBook Air — Man, do I want one of these, with the solid state drive. Too bad about that budget thing. No replacement laptop scheduled this year, and not nearly enough fun money for it.

I dunno. That self-publishing success story seemed like an awful lot of investment, of both time and money. I'll keep trying the "hard way."

The self-published novel involved the creation of a publisher with a $50K startup capital.

It's still a pretty good return on the investment, but few people can afford to lose that much.

I'm not that impressed with the new Mac. It's expensive and still has a fairly large footprint. I'm much happier with mt $400 Eee that can share a table with my lunch. And, at $400, I'm not particularly worried about bad things happening to it.

I'm somewhat on the fence about the solid state drives. So far, testing them at work (albeit with Windows) hasn't proven them to be all that great. In fact, they seem to slow down with use. Granted, our sample size is about five unique laptops.

I think I'd rather look at 500 trees than a bunch of casinos any day. But then again, I'm a tree hugging hippy...
