Spotted via scalzi's Whatever, Robin Hobb on the perils of blogging.

pnh talks crazy in response, to wit: "...it seems to me possible that for some writers, blogging is a time sink and a creative drain, while for others it's a source of connection, energy, and inspiration."

Man, these writers. People who blog too much have no one but themselves... erm...

I'll just get me coat, shall I?

My *reading* of blogs gets in the way of my writing far more than my *writing* of blogs does ... >.>

When one answer is much funnier than the others, that answer should skew the results of the poll. Unfortunately, not all your readers understand the nature of humor as clearly as I do, so that one answer isn't getting as many votes as it deserves.

Perhaps it's just that your readership is too young to know how funny the Popemobile really is.

I had the experience just today of saying the word "Datsun" on the phone to an account rep, then having to spell the word, then explain the word.

Yeah, Datsun is as vanished as Nash or DeSoto. I wonder if you have to explain Edsel and Corvair jokes, too.

Just comes with the rolled-trousers territory.

I saw Ms. Hobb's rant through grrm and brought you up as an example of why it clearly isn't so black and white. ;)

Blogging is no worse a procrastination than watching TV, playing games or doing housework.

You know I could probably write more if I stopped sleeping (and it seems from the last few days, Jay actually has) but sleep is where I let my brain find new ideas, just as blogging is where I let my fingers find the keys and vent my frustrations so my mind is clear for writing. As others have said, your mileage may vary

The issue here isn't the actual blogging, it's the procrastination.

All I can say it's a good job Hobb hasn't found Facebook or she'd get no writing done!

It's not a question of whether or not you blog too much.

The real time sink and creative drain is all this meta-blogging. Phew!

I seriously doubt you'd be as wildy creative if you didn't blog like you do. I mean...geez! What's not going to spark creative thoughts like finding and posting about articles on the massive uses for dryer lint, or the latest political "oopsie"? :-P And what's not to love about the lastest "Jay caption contests"? Honestly, I think I might be wasting too much time reading your blogs.

I jokingly picked the "hypergraphic git" but in all seriousness --- I look forward to Link Salad every morning...it goes great with coffee. It even is smart linked so it opens up in a new tab as opposed to hijacking my browser.
Could a man ask for anything else? I think not.

Where else do you get such great imaging of Jay touching the Noodly Appendage of the SFM! Hey, are those really great images available at CafePress yet as a thong? (or mug, or t shirt...)

I just had to go with hypergraphic because I'd never heard, seen or thought the word before.

I heard that you had recently been dubbed 'Time Sink Man'. Read that as you like...
