Watching "World Enough and Time" with the_child tonight — she for the first time, I in my drug crazed stupor — when my daughter observes (of the original Star Trek):

"Didn't they have any women on this show?"

Paternal laughter ensues.

Very amusing :).

You should introduce her to some of the more memorable Lady Guest Stars (no, not the Orion slavegirl -- I was thinking the Ambassador, the Lawyer, the Doctor -- They *did* try within the limitations of 1966 & NBC ;>).

Wait. You mean . . . Nichelle Nichols is a man? William Shatner kissed a man of colour in prime time tv?

Why didn't anyone tell me when I moved into this strange, parallel universe where everything seems so familiar but is so subtly altered?

What do you mean, what medication am I on?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. :p WEaT is the only original Trek piece she's seen, and the Uhura character has maybe one line in it...

But other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?

Explain that normally there are plenty of women on Star Trek, but the costumer lost his scissors that day, and the only costume that was revealing enough to be used was the one for Alana.
