Post-Weird Thoughts considers the new Tor site

Shorpy with a picture of a fine, styling ridee — :: wants ::

More on the Deep Impact movie of the Moon transiting Earth — Specifically, concerning lessons learned about analysis of exoplanets. This is SF on the hoof, in real life.

The secrets to anti-ageing genesthe_child and I had a conversation not too long ago about what it would mean to live forever. (Mortality has been much discussed in around Nuevo Rancho Lake of late.) Her thought was that she would be very sad to see the people she loved die, but she wants to see what happens next. We agreed that if either of us ever figured it out, we’d share with the other.

L’affaire Bogdanov — Weirdness in physics along the lines of the Sokal affair. Like of interest mostly to science geeks. (Hat tip to Language Log.)

Cyanide and Happiness — Some moderately NSFW humor. (Thanks to willyumtx.)

Father-of-three branded a ‘pervert’ - for photographing his own children in public park — I’ve actually had this problem, though not nearly to this degree. When the_child was quite a bit younger, I would sometimes go sit at the park with her, the only man among the playground moms. (This was at Viejo Rancho Lake, which was next door to a rather nice public park.) The neighborhood moms all knew who I was, even if they didn’t know me personally, but the park got a lot of drop-in traffic, and at least once a week I’d get the hairy eyeball from some woman trying to figure out why a bearded, long-haired man was watching the little kids play. I always hated that. (Thanks to willyumtx.)
