Scrivener’s Error on historical fiction in literature and the law — Sarcasm alert.

Indigenous nudity — Some heavy duty (and rather amusing) linguistic geekery at Language Log.

Polyhedral maps — This be some cool shit. (Thanks to willyumtx.)

Quantum computing with ions — I know people are all about the logical structures of quantum computing, but I find the efficiency more interesting in many ways. (Thanks to lt260.)

Aerial Mono-Flyer of the Future — Apparently our ancestors understood neither physics nor engineering when they dreamt of the future.

Paul Weyrich on George W. Bush — “If Mr. Bush had done what he promised in 2000 - that is, no nation-building - he would go down in history as perhaps the greatest president since George Washington.” Hahahahahahahahaah. And conservatives wonder why liberals think they’re nuts.

Make diplomacy, not war — Shorter Bush administration: “Millions for defense, not one cent for diplomacy.” (Thanks to my dad.)

Bush administration seeks to undermine Endangered Species Act — Because reduced regulation has worked so well in mine safety, financial services and other areas. Facts are stupid. (Thanks to lt260.)

"Millions for defense..." as far back as 1837. An oldie but a goodie. Clearly, Bush has just been mining historical precedent.

::sigh::

Subject: Re; The Weyrich article
Had he gone to Beijing and said nothing, not only would it have been inconsistent with the president's long record on human rights and freedoms, but the people of Burma and Tibet and the victims of China's one-child policy would have felt abandoned, perhaps even betrayed.

Huh? What long record? He talks about them but doesn't do much...

thanks for the link on the maps: this is cool geometry geek shit.
