I’ll be in San Francisco for a trade show from 9/10-9/12. I’m actually staying into the weekend just for the heck of it. calendula_witch is helping me organize a dinner Friday night, 9/12. To my San Francisco homies, let me know if you’re interested in getting together then, or possibly sometime Saturday.

I would be interested, if a social event got planned.

(Man, it's weird ID-ing myself as a Bay Area person. I think my brain is still in Indiana.)

You are On The List. Also, somehow I missed that you were in the Bay Area. Bringing a guest?

I'm in the Bay Area as of just past midnight on Tuesday. None of my stuff is here yet, but I hope to see that remedied this weekend, or early next week, and by the time you're here I'll have moved in enough that I might even be able to think about something other than the geometry of furniture or all the things I need to buy for the new place.

If you would like to meet my husband, then yes, mark down a guest. (He's a well-educated geek; he wouldn't be out of place.)

Interestingly, he claims to have met you, though he can't remember when. Kyle Niedzwiecki -- I'd say "tall guy with ponytail and glasses," but that describes way too much of fandom to be useful, I suspect. (I can't recall if you've ever been at ICFA; that's my best guess for where you two would have met.)

I have yet to make it to ICFA, but if I've met him before, I'll recognize his face. I'm much better at faces than names.

Well, darn - I just always miss out on these things, don't I?

I will be in Lincoln City, Oregon, sweating out a short story workshop with Dean Wesley Smith, Kristine Rusch and Sheila Williams. Giant ball of nerves, I will be, a giant ball of nervousness.

Have a great time in the city! Mindspring sure enjoyed the city when I took it back in May :-)

It's part of that "live the life of a big name writer for a day" program that all the writer wannabes like me are signing up for. Sort of like a "job shadow" thing :-)

Don't know if you like Ethiopian food, but Massawa on Haight is excellent. It's been a while since I've been there, but I think they're decent with handling large groups. But if you're near Moscone, that might be too far for a group to gather...

And, for that matter, if any other SFers can think of a nice(ish) restaurant that would accommodate a Friday night crowd of flexible size, do chime in! I've struck out on two places, but just got wind of another...I keep trying.

edited to add--your linkee--there's a hyphen. calendula-witch. :-)

Sit down nice dinner or food that happens to be served in a place with copious alcohol? I have more experience with the latter in SF...

Potentially Kennedy's in North Beach, for Indian food and a Pub, but might be too loud/dark for casual conversation.

Hoping for sit down and some conversation; definitely alcohol; and, er, parking? I know, I know, too much to ask. Silly me.

I struck out on Fresca on 24th Street, and probably on Zuni. Am now exploring Lark Creek Steak, in the new Westfield thing on Market near Nordstrom.

I'd love an invite, though my attendance may be poor depending on work.

It'll be a very busy time (first full week of school ends that Friday), but we'll say yes, and I'll meet Dave in the city. We can go from there, if you don't mind! (Maybe more pins to deliver by then?) We could always do Bucca di Beppo if you are at Moscone. It's a block away, and designed for crowds (even though the food is predictable).

Bucca di Beppo does have that large crowd thing down cold, don't they? It will be good to see you!

If you are free on Sunday and fancy a trip north to the wine country, my science fiction group would love to have you as a guest. We are meeting that Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Borders in Santa Rosa.

Frank Wu was our guest about a year ago if you want to know what we're like.

Unfortunately I am flying home Sunday morning, or I'd love to do it. The next time I'm in town I'll see if we can't line up!
