Iran is an “existential threat” to the United States Israel?

WTF?

Senator McCain, there’s a Mr. Inigo Montoya here to see you.

ETA: As several folks have pointed out in comments, apparently this is a legitimate use of the word. Perhaps a poor stylistic choice, but not flat out wrong. It still cracked me up bad.

I thought he said it was a threat to Israel, but I also had the same thought.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I think MSNBC's Rachel Maddow said that yesterday (of McCain) regarding the use of the word "suspend."

I think he was saying that a nuclear-armed Iran would pose an existential threat to Israel, not the US -- which it would:

He did say 'existential threat to Israel', and it is a perfectly valid use of the word, under what was, until them Frenchies co-opted it for a philosophical movement, its primary meaning – simply 'pertaining to existence'.

McCain, of course, is old enough to remember when that was its main definition.

LOL I thought the same thing. WTF? But my favorite quote of the night is still, "You don't say that out loud."
