Editorial remarks: Today was as close as I’ve come to missing goal. I pulled it out in the end, but I spent my entire afternoon and evening doing Dad things with the_child, which take priority until they don’t. One of the subtle tragedies of being a writer is how much you are willing to sacrifice of what was once not subject to compromise. It is like serving a lesser god.
On the plus side, she read me ten pages out of the middle reader her class is working through, and hand-wrote about six pages (double spaced) of a story in her class notebook. So this was time very well spent.
WIP:
A familiar state of attunement overtook Paolina in a subtle change. Like a tide with no waves, an ocean with no shore, it rose. She could feel the rock, feel all the tiny resonances deep within it as God’s clockwork structure of the universe was replicated at so tiny a scale the human eye would never witness it. Quod est superius est sicut quod est inferius.
As above, so below.
Everything rested on everything else. It was like clouds moving within clouds, or a mesh of gearing and bearings which stretched the width of creation. She found the bit of the world that the stemwinder was tuned to now, saw how it knew its position, changed the stone’s motion so that the position became uncertain with respect to the movements of the Earth itself, then set it back into place.
