My flight was cancelled this morning. Apparently the Omaha airport is reducing landing slots today, possibly due to a forecasted high of 4 degrees (F) impairing operations. It took quite a bit of time, and some very pleasant talking by me, but I'm rebooked on two other airlines through Denver (gah!), with a very long layover there, then on to Omaha a couple of hours later than planned. All this assumes further cancellations are not in order, and weather doesn't worsen all the way around.

Ah yes, the saga of the Experienced Business Traveler. I suspect you and DH have the same sort of Very Pleasant Talking when negotiating with airline personnel....

We used to get trapped in Cincinnati by Delta regularly. They'd put us in a hotel and feed us, but truly did NOT want to give us our checked luggage. Since that time, one of our carry-ons is always dubbed the Cincinnati bag. It has the bare minimum of over night necessities for the whole family; fresh socks and undies, teethbreesh, spare batteries for the hand-held electronics and, of course, some books.

Do you carry a Denver bag?

Generally speaking, no, because I avoid Denver (and Chicago) like plague-ridden corpses when traveling. Sadly, this is an involuntary reroute, and I had to take what I could get.

I have been unclear.

If you end up trapped in Denver, can you live out of your carry-on, if they decline to give you your checked luggage?

I've changed planes in O'Hare, it didn't seem any worse than any other airport. Mostly these days, we change in Las Vegas. Keeping kids away from the slots in the airport is good exercise! (Brian used to program slot machines, he explained to me that the machines in the airport and the front part of casinos were statistically less likely to pay off than others. He knew, 'cause he helped program them that way.)

It will not creep above freezing here today.
