I am now afraid of horses. Especially very large horses.

Heh. Even though Big Duke's best buddy is a Shetland, I bet--like many other ordinary horses--he'll spook at a genuine miniature horse (generally about half the size of a Shetland). For some reasons minis spook full sized horses that don't regularly hang out with them. Exposure to Shetlands does not appear to be a factor (I once had a half-crazed 16 hands high horse--a foot shorter than Duke--go completely freakoid at the sight of a mini. And she had at one time been stabled with the damned mini. Not the sanest of horses, that one).

Ah well, this particular mare was brain-fried. We'd be executing a movement she'd be doing perfectly well, and she would suddenly break out in a sweat and start freaking out. Racing Quarter Horse blood, lots of it, and she'd been mishandled at some point in her past. Whopping huge case of horsey PTSD and you never knew what would kick it off. She was a big, powerful mare as well--not the sort of beast you wanted to start having flashbacks underneath you.
