"Seven days.

Seven days of snowbound and Jay felt the seams of his mind fraying like a worn-out Hawaiian shirt.

He'd tried it all. The long walks towing his bucket-sled. Experimental prose. The atavistic snowmen. "The Complete Guide to Enlightenment Through Yogic Posing". The efforts worked, but only briefly. They weren't enough.

He needed human contact. He needed interaction. He needed to send a signal.

The only power left was in the two small flashlights. They'd have to be it. Held to his nose, the red light would travel farther. Someone would see it, surely they would.

Or something. Aliens. Zombies. Vampires. Didn't matter. Even if it was vampires, it was still better than snowbound."
