WHoever raised her did an outstanding job of it. The child picked Pippi! I didn't think anybody outside insular little Europe had ever heard of the character! YAY!

She *loves* those movies. And I remember seeing at least one of them when I was a kid, though I don't think I liked them as much back then as this kid does now.

Huh? I grew up in the 1970's in the USA and read Pippi Longstocking. She was featured in the Scholastic Book Club at least a couple of times, I think.

The last time the subject came up with some NorAm friends, oh, maybe just over a year ago, I got blank looks all around. "Pippi WHAT?"

I was born in Old Europe and I suspected at the time that my childhood reading was quite a lot different from theirs.

I"m happy to know that Pippi is better known in the USA than I had believed her to be!
