Frank Miller's Peanuts — Um, wow. (Thanks to scarlettina.)

The Mongol Rally — If my life were a little better funded, I would so totally be doing this. (Thanks to danjite.)

Lincoln's pocket watch — This is cool. scarettina has more.

GOP senator flips out at airline, sets off security alarm — Entitlement: your GOP family value for the day.

Now-needy FDIC collected little in premiumsThe federal agency that insures bank deposits, which is asking for emergency powers to borrow up to $500 billion to take over failed banks, is facing a potential major shortfall in part because it collected no insurance premiums from most banks from 1996 to 2006. [...] Congress believed that the fund was so well-capitalized - and that bank failures were so infrequent - that there was no need to collect the premiums for a decade, according to banking officials and analysts. Let's see, who was in control of Congress from 1996-2006? Which party believes in de-regulation to the point of psychosis about it? Hmmm. Nope, nothing comes to mind. Definitely an "Obama economy" problem. The Bush Depression: conservatism's gift to America. (Snurched from This Modern World.)

Ah, my state's elected officials--continuing the proud tradition of embarrassing every progressive person in their constituency. All I can say is I sure as hell didn't vote for him, or Jindal, either.

If you ever decide to do the Mongol Rally--and you decide it's not Just A Guy Thing--then I'm totally with you. This sounds like it could be absolutely fantastic.

And you know, should we need to substitute a camel at some point, I have some experience with these creatures. At 1/8 of a wife, it's affordable.

Really, the Mongol Rally is affordable as these things go. Entry, car, insurance and bribes should come to less than an organised group holiday for the same 5 weeks.

The problem is I don't have the five weeks, or the funding, either one. Not unless I could afford to take an unpaid LOA from work, make up the lost wages, and the ca. $100,000 spend on the project. Which, erm, not.

$100k? Did that come from the website? I was thinking closer to $35k for a team of three for five weeks and that would be with cushion, bribes and frivolity.

Maybe it's not that high, but my share of $35 K plus making up lost wages still stands me out the neighborhood of $30K.

Which, not so much. Not right now.

You, me and someone else with a high tolerance for discomfort and weird adventures.

Is lunacy the same as entitlement? Heh.

Actually, one reason I pick on the GOP so much when there are plenty of Dems and other less political figures who behave just as badly is that through my entire lifetime, the GOP has made considerable political hay out of their supposed moral and ethical superiority. (Remember the Reagan years, or the Clinton years?)

People are goofy, all the damned time, no matter what their politics, religion or philosophy. But people who make their living out of throwing stones deserved to be called out on their glass houses.

I suppose it's too much to hope for that Sen. Vitter is now on the No Fly List.
