"Shades of White and Road" by camillealexa — Go read it. Trust me on this one.

Language Log learns something new every day — Grammar is a moving target, so buckle up.

Shorpy with a photo of NYPD of a bygone era and what appears to be a motorcycle-mounted machine gun — What, me recoil?

The Rochester ghost subway — Nostalgic futurism in the Rust Belt. Some cool stuff here. (And, in a weird way, reminds me of the Hanford site's subway to hell.)

An Unseen Nearby Star?Centauri Dreams with the return of Nemesis. Science, but also the stuff of space opera.

The failed/cancelled Rochester subway is too bad. I just visited Berlin - fantastic useful well-maintained metro system there. It's too bad US cities just don't get it about decent public transportation, and continue to be designed for cars instead of for people.

I've been in those abandoned Rochester subway tunnels. There were some people living in them when I was there; they were poaching electricity and had lights.

They weren't around when we got down there. We just saw some clumps of bedding and chairs around the lights.
