The open question threads seem to be proliferating, so I'll jump off the ice floe with all the other cool penguins. Ask away in comments, I'll answer in subsequent posts. Anything goes, I'll answer as honestly and completely as I can.

Have you reached a tipping point for your work?

That is, where you get far more acceptances than rejections?

More or less, yes. But this is masked by a shift in my writing and submittal patterns. I write very little short fiction on spec anymore. Almost everything is requested or spoken for. That being said, a request is not an automatic acceptance, so a certain number of stories slip into the general submission queue. On those, I probably average 3 rejections for every acceptance. However, sometimes rejections are forced by the fact that I might send an editor two or three stories, knowing they'll only pick one.

So, in the sense that I believe you intended the question, yes, I've reached the tipping point. However, I still garner plenty of rejections.

I respect you to much to pry information out of you that you would not offer up yourself.

I appreciate the offer, but I decline.

I'm not going to ask anything. Look what happened the last time I asked a question on one of these.

Aww, come on. What are the odds of the same thing happening twice?

Besides, aren't I just a bundle of mystery to you?

Define "for fun." I should be in the ANZAC neighborhood next year, thanks to WorldCon, but that has a definite business/career purpose as a centerpiece. Purely for fun, I'd have to have much more extensive resources than I now enjoy...

I hope it wasn't too mean, whatever happened with c_w!

Looking back, what do you think you would do differently regarding your writing, especially at the beginning?

What other genres have you tried, or have you always written sf/f?

Well, if blogs were a genre, I'd say you write well in that genre, too--I always enjoy your blog. You write a very nice mix of family, job, writing, traveling, thoughts, worries, happy things, and I like all the links. It's all about personality, I guess.

What do you think of blogging?

Ah, a three-fer! Or is that too much? A four-fer, somebody stop me! Heh ;D

Work harder? Listen better to other people instead of heeding the trump of my own genius. (I didn't begin to succeed until I learned to ignore that sound.)

All my book-length work is sf/f. I've written short fiction in mainstream, militaria and mystery, though not very much of it.

I always enjoy your blog ... What do you think of blogging?

Works for me, but definitely not for everyone. My blogging doesn't come out of the same reservoirs of time and energy that my fiction does, except indirectly. Blogging as an excuse for not writing is b.s. Blogging because you want to blog is a fine idea.
