the_child and I shot some derelict railway equipment during our father-daughter day on Saturday. This is rolling stock and equipment associated with the Portland Traction Railway, a very small spur line in this area which runs active freight and passenger excursion operations.

Some photos:

Note the yellow jackets nesting inside the engine.

The sign on the building reads "O. W. P. & Ry. Co. Substation 1905"

I believe this is one of the Great Northern Pullmans I photographed in NE Portland several years ago.

As usual, more at the Flickr set.

I can't believe how big she's gotten.

Tell me about it...

Those are some cool pictures :) I really like the one of her jumping from the train as well as the third one from the bottom.

I stole your photo safari idea and my daughter appears to have caught the photo bug and is desperate to go out and take more pictures. Thank you. I'd been looking for something active that we could do together and this seems to be a great fit.

She took the third one from the bottom, actually. :D

I've also hauled her off to places like abandoned missile silos to do this kind of stuff. It's a lot of fun. I'm glad you guys did it.

Digital cameras are so wonderful for kids.

I'm really looking forward to going to some interesting places with Dani, yesterday we didn't make it out of the backyard, but it was still loads of fun :)

Our Friday plans are to go to a baseball game (with cameras). Danica passed on going to a movie and a slumber party with two of her best friends to go to the game and take pictures. I think she's pretty hooked :)
