I have a troll comment on my exercise post from this morning [ jlake.com | LiveJournal ]. I'm not going to bother to unmoderate it (trolls are almost always anonymous for some mysterious reason), but I'll reprint it here because I think it's hilarious and deserves mockery.
So, your basic egoism. Easy.

See, I figure my friendly neighborhood troll is saying that it's either egoism to exercise and take care of your body, or it's egoism to talk about exercising and taking care of your body.

Either position is kind of baffling. I mean, this is my body and it's tried to kill me twice now. :: waves hello to cancer :: I damn well ought to take care of it. Exercising is hardly being a bad example to myself or others, either.

On the other hand, this is my blog, and I can damn well talk about whatever I want to. You lot are just lucky that I'm not the kind of obsessive who measures the net linear dimensions of his bowel movements or something. Because you know what? You don't have to read it!

Or maybe it's subtle comment spam? At least when I snark at someone, I sign my name. :: waves hello to the Republican party ::

In any case, I must say, my fragile spirit is wounded by this offhand and safely anonymous comment. You'll find me sniffling in the corner over there any minute now, really. I swear.

Frankly, I have been wondering for quite some time when the bowel measurements would commence.

That's too bad.

If they want basic, advanced, and competition-grade egoism, they should see -my- journal. *snerk*

Gotta wonder about someone too gutless to sign his name to his snark.

It must be the season. Yesterday I got one on my post about the indiereader scamjob and PW's free advertising thereof.

See, I don't allow anonymous posts. LJ accounts are free, if people really care enough about you to want to comment they can quit their bitching and get one. Trolls never seem to do that. Of course some non-trolls also seem to never do that.

On your personal site? Well, that's a bit trickier, because there is no authentication you're trusting the data that people enter.

I don't troll you, I just out and out pick on you. Not to mention some of the folks who comment on your blog.... (Hi, Lee!)

Well, right. And I can get behind that. I don't mind argument or challenge, and usually enjoy snark.

Anonymous pettiness, on the other hands

If that icon is you, I can see an epic battle for Hawaiian-Shirt Supremacy in the offing.

That's one of my boring shirts. A youngster like Jay wouldn't stand a chance against us seasoned professionals. Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill!

You know, I would have expected you to garner a spiffier, wittier, deadlier sort of troll. You need to try harder, Jay. I mean, really.

Send him to Fremont. They've got a nice bridge with company for him already under it.

Hi Jay,

In all the time I've had my journal--which is about a year now--I've only had one troll jump in and start attacking my friends who had posted . . . and the person was anonymous.

It was bad enough that I considered shutting off the anonymous option, but I sometimes have family and friends want to talk who are not registered.

Why do you think trolls are always anonymous?

I love it when you talk about exercise because it gets me to THINK about exercise. That's probably the troll's problem. Got him/her guilty because there be no exercise on THAT horizon.

Just the other day we got a "Twilight" themed Troll slaying story from XKCD that nearly had me tearing up with laughter.

Hey! That's my corner your sniffling in! Go and find another corner to moisten!

It takes all types to make the world go 'round. If this is your first spammer, then I suppose you should consider yourself lucky.

And gee, it's usually me who's the comment spammer (usually with snarky humour)

Odd how trolls work. I had one a while back (my first) who had seen pictures of me on the web and felt it was their duty to point out my weight and urge me to excercise and diet so that I didn't die before finishing my series of books for their reading pleasure.

Ah, trolls. Dawn take you all! :)

Basic egoism? I thought the Internet ran on that. If he's going around pointing that out everywhere he sees it, he's never going to make it out of Livejournal.
