Self-similarity in fractals — James Gurney is cool once again.

U.S.S. OnondagaShorpy with a Civil War ironclad. Awesome!

Cultural capitalThe Edge of the American West comments on conservatives in the arts.

Birthers: Latest crop of conspiracy theorists — Americans and conspiracy theories. The loudest clamor on conspiracy always seems to be from the Right (Vince Foster, anyone?), tough some how most of the real conspiracies also seem to be from the right (Watergate, Iran-Contra, etc.). Displacement much?

I'm surprised he would say that. The entire genre of country music is bare-faced conservative, plus any and all 'Christian Contemporary' music. The two genres together have staggering numbers of listeners. And a large number of popular movies are conservative too, at least of the "if foreigners try to attack us, Blow Them Up with very big guns" form of conservatism.

Is he downplaying pop culture in favor of the middlebrow-and-up range?

Well, while most of them might come from the right, there are the 9/11 Truthers out there, too. (And now that I read the article, I see the Truthers get a mention.)

Although, that said, the main reason I know about Truthers is that they're more prevalent in the spaces I like to hang out in, while the Birthers seem to have gotten a bit more mainstream traction. (Paging Lou Dobbs, Lou Dobbs, please pick up the white courtesy telephone...)
