'It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle [a VERY small gate in the Jerusalem city walls] than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven'. What is so difficult to understand about that? It may be inconvenient for a shyster preacher, but is isn't difficult to understand. I suppose they interpret 'heresy' rather differently too, especially when applying the concept to themselves. I don't wonder at all.

The Edge of the American West article is precisely what I've been thinking all along - whether the P.O. actually makes it in some weakened form or doesn't this time- his model, I suspect, all along has been FDR - who created a whole lot of thing *very* incrementally - a little at a time. My only worry is that he won't have long enough to do all he really wants to - FDR had 4 bites at the pie after all - at best, Obama will only get 2.

That cartoon reminds me of the 1700s era graffiti I found carved into a sea cave wall in Ireland. It had the nicest, neatest serifs you ever did see.
