Fort Marion WPA travel poster — I just love this art. From Vintagraph.

Why women have sex — Um, really?

Photo of Samuel Cody, 1911, ready for flight — Now that's aviation. From x-planes.

Commercial Supply Rocket Ready for Lift Off — Woo hoo!

Notes & Queries 09/28/09Centauri Dreams with a fascinating roundup of space science tidbits.

Short-term stress stops cancer — In mice. Maybe. Still...

This Modern World on the Obama is a Nazi riff — It would be funny if it weren't so sadly true. The American Right has lost what little it had left of moral authority and intellectual consistency to stupid rhetorical games.

Point of note: the Dragon capsule SpaceX are flying on the first launch of their Falcon 9 isn't the real thing -- it's a prototype test article, not fully instrumented or equipped, that they've been using for vehicle integration work. Basically, if the test launch works, the Dragon prototype will make it into orbit and send back some telemetry before burning up on re-entry. But it'll be some time before a real Dragon capsule makes orbit.

FWIW, in anecdotal discussions amongst *my* friends - sex is for fun, for love, for romance, for pleasure - pretty much the reasons I'd expect.

I'm sure the other is true (must be, it's in a survey!) - but not of the women I appear to be willing to spend large amounts of time with :>.

1) The Fort Marion travel poster is luminous. Wow.

3) From "Why Women Have Sex:" Jane Eyre, I think, can be read as a love letter to a big house. WTF? The house burns down and she marries him anyway. Dim.

Love the poster site. Sent my brother a link to the World's Fair poster page. He'll be in heaven and yet disappointed there are none from New York. Wonderful stuff.

You might like this site, Jay:

Replica WPA national park posters, and new ones designed in the old style.
(I have a bunch from the parks I've visited, I need to take the time to frame them.)
