If you get a chance, can you expound a bit on how "Chain of Stars" fits into that universe?

That's probably worth a blog post of its own, but time is not my friend right now. In short, "Chain of Stars" follows on "Chain of Fools", and takes place in the same general timeframe as the MAINSPRING books -- "Chain of Fools" about 1890 or 1892, "Chain of Stars" about or a little after 1900. At least one minor character crosses over, otherwise the connection is primarily in the cosmology and setting.
