After a truly lovely weekend here in San Francisco with calendula_witch, I am off to Los Angeles this morning. Will be in Torrance, CA through Wednesday morning, then back home to Portland. Have some things to report, about a car show we dropped in on, as well as more cancer Fear stuff, but that blogging shall have to wait until this evening.

In the mean time, consider this an open question thread. Whether you're a brand-new reader or a long-time friend, ask me here in comments about writing, life, cancer, whatever.

It's slowly getting worse. I'm insulated from some of the changes by my premier flyer status, but, for example, the monetization of damned near everything has gotten silly. I think the US airlines are about one step away from installing pay toilets on the planes. Contrast with my recent experiences on Air Canada, JAL and several Chinese domestic carriers, where the amenities were much more generous, the equipment much better maintained and up to date, and the customer service much better engaged.

That and the continued downward spiral of security theater, courtesy of the TSA, which does little to actually improve air safety and a great deal to impede and degrade the quality of air travel...

It's not like prior eras of air travel were "good old days." It's just the problems of this era seem more thoroughly systemic.

I stopped that quite a while ago, but I'm not sure why. Story words might be worth restarting...

You've been posting some photos of your past. Do you ever see an old photo and have no immediate recollection of it having been taken, or not know where it is or who you are with? Does this type of memory exercise shake any story ideas out of your head?

I know that when I'm confronted with photographic evidence of something I don't remember, I tend to invent something (a story) that will give it context. Usually, I remember what was going on in the photo before I get too far into the invention process.

I am often confused by old photos. Lately the ones my sister has been scanning are labelled (or most of them are) with year, month and (usually) location, which helps a lot. But yes, memory goes down some strange false trails.

On the other hand, given the way I grew up, many of the real trails are just as strange.

Who would win in a battle between Cthulhu and a giant clockwork robot?

[because I ask far too many serious questions. Plus inquiring minds want to know]
