The Child and the Spirit of Christmas

Playing some board game with the Child today. Karengi, or some such. In the middle of game seven or eight she starts discussing the logic of Santa Claus.

Child:Dad, look at the box this game came in.
Child:Well, Santa gave me this game, right?
Me:(uncertain where this is going) Yes...
Child:What does this say?
Me:Parker Brothers.
Child:Right. That's just like advertising. Why does Santa need advertising?
Me:(lame voice) Maybe he got it at the store.

Scaring myself more than usual

Those of you who have had the misfortune to be around me when alcohol is freely available may be familiar with my little party game of singing "House of the Rising Sun" to as many tunes as possible. (Singing very badly, I might add (parenthetically).) Old favorites include the Gilligan's Island theme, "Amazing Grace", and "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing." Well today it occured to me that "House of the Rising Sun" also works to "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and the somewhat similar "Russians" by Sting, a/k/a "Romance" from Sergei Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kije Suite.

Naturally this works in all directions. You always wanted to sing "Amazing Grace" as a round to the Gilligan theme, didn't you? Taking suggestions now for my next impromptu a capella performance.
