Across the horizon

Getting up at a ridiculous hour tomorrow to take the_child and her mother to the airport, so they can fly back east for Leo's funeral. They'll be back Saturday night.

Yesterday the_child was singing "Ghost Riders In the Sky" in the car, a capella, with an astonishing set of mondegreens. I can't even begin to recapture them now, but it was something about rocket powered cabarets and the devil.

Today she was helping me make my bed. I told her to be careful of the flannel sheets, that they were getting old and might easily tear. She told me to be careful of the comforter, that it didn't like loud noises, and that the bedspread was afraid of bright colors, and that this pillow over here didn't like nasty words. She went on in this vein for a while.

This afternoon's performance at Do-Jump was a hit. Photos tomorrow, time permitting. They filled the house for two showings, and the kids had a blast. Poetry, comedy and aerial dance, basically.

Now she's going away, to say good-bye to her grandfather. I love my kid.
