[audio] Podcast updated 2007-12-30

There's a new podcast up today. This is a recording of a panel on writing workshops at Foolscap IX, with kate_schaefer, eddvick, Kara Dalkey and me.

RSS feed is here or here, depending on which one your reader likes better. The iTunes feed is here. You can also simply search for "Jay Lake" or "Lakeshore" in the iTunes store, under the Podcast category.

[food] Mmm...biscuits

Tried another variation on biscuits today, and have hit very close to home. ellameena's flour recommendations were right on the mark, though I haven't been able to find the brand she suggested. (White Lily, if anyone in the greater PDX metropolitan area has spotted it somewhere.)

Today I used Pillsbury cake flour, and substituted 25% of the butter with bacon grease. If I'd remembered to cut the added salt, because of the bacon grease's inherent salt, they would have tasted close to perfect.

All I need now is to fool with the leavening a little to see if I can make them rise a bit more. Also, the bacon grease makes the dough taste slightly funny, if you're a nibble-as-you-go cook like I am.

We had bacon and fried eggs with, the eggs topped wet in the pan with a bit of curry powder, dried mustard and ground pepper.

Green shortly.

[writing] Progriss riport

14,400 words today, to 96,300. With any luck, I'll crack 100,000 words on this draft before year end. Not bad given that I started on 12/10, except for 2,600 words of prework.

I'm just about at the pivot point of the second act. Right now I'm forecasting 185,000 words for first draft. Which is fine, it will need some cutting since the production target is 140,000 words. If the draft runs way long, with enough story meat, I'll re-evaluate.

I love this stuff.
