Hilarious review of METAtropolis: Cascadia

The steampunk conversation at Babel Clash continues interesting

A Living Planet Between the Stars? — I am officially in love with the term "Steppenwolf planet".

Why patients need a say in their health care — My own experience has been a lot more progressive than this, but, yeah. (Via [info]danjite.)

Inside the Secret Service

Is Huntsman Out To Get Romney? — I don't buy this theory (and neither does the author, I think), but this bit of GOP inside baseball gave me a giggle nonetheless.

It's Hard Out Here for a PimpWhy the latest conservative hidden-video trick to embarrass liberals has fizzled. Conservatives victimized yet again as slippery liberals making it harder for the party of family values to conduct fraudulent entrapment.

NY Rep. Lee Resigns After Shirtless Photo SurfacesLee, who won his seat in 2008, cultivated a family-values voting record in the House, earning an 88 percent approval rating from the American Conservative Union for his 2010 votes. Gosh, what a shock. Any bets the FOX News crawl mislabeled him as a Democrat in disgrace?

House Republicans Heroically Propose to Cut the Budget by a Teeny Tiny Bit — Defense budget? What defense budget? Oh, and tax cuts don't count. Only things that benefit poor or brown people. (Via [info]goulo.)

[personal|writing] Endurance, Seattle, Rose City Steampunk Film Festival

Worked on the Endurance copy edits a while last night. These were presented electronically, which is new for Tor, at least in my experience of their process. It's also immensely more convenient for me. I further note that my draft was fairly smooth, with only a few persistent errors on my part. Using "swathe" when I meant "swath", for example. And entire pages without a correction! That's how you 'win' a copy edit...

Working this morning, then off to help a friend with something intensely personal, then up to Seattle this afternoon. I'll be bombing around amongst a cast of dozens, and then zipping home in time for the Rose City Steampunk Film Festival on Sunday afternoon, which will include an author's panel, 3:15 to 4:15. Come on by if you're in PDX that day.

My time will be very constrained the next couple of days in some very fun ways, so expect continued light blogging with lightly scattered wit and erudition. Y'all play nice while I'm gone, too.
