[travel] Driving to Wellington, NZ, day five - baby seals, WWI aircraft and the ferry ride

Yesterday we drove from Kaiokoura, NZ to Picton, NZ, then took the Bluebridge ferry over to Wellington to end up at the home of our hosts [info]danjite and [info]khaybee.

Beautiful coastline. Wonderful scenery. A really cool aviation museum at Omaka, NZ.

And seals.

Baby seals.

The most adorable thing I have ever seen in my life, by an order of magnitude. At Ohau Point there is a seal colony. The seal colony pups swim up a nearby stream to play in the pool at the bottom of a waterfall there. And... wow...

It is one of the most unbelievable things I have ever seen.

Then one of them came out of the water to inspect me, eventually sniffing my leg.

Oh, wow.

So, yeah. Baby seals. This alone is worth the cost and hassle to getting to New Zealand. It was an almost transcendent experience.

As usual, more at the Flickr set.
