I keep dreaming that I am wrecking my car. Not giant death-defying pileups, just missed corners, bad swerves, sideswipes, fender benders and the like.

This internal meme has two sources, I think. One, I keep using the "car on ice" metaphor when discussing my side effects management. Two, my driving is frankly crap these days. My peripheral attention is poor. I don't drive at night anymore, I don't drive during or a few days after chemo even during the days. When I do drive, I have to double and triple check mirrors, lanes etc.

Not sure what it means. Except maybe I should drive less. Sigh.

I suggest a third source. The car is currently one of the "problems I need to deal with which are getting mostly ignored until chemo is over".
You should drive less and you are. But I've ridden with you while you drive and you are doing just fine.

For me, car dreams are a sign that I'm under stress and feeling out of control. If I'm a wee bit stressed, I'm trying to drive from the passenger seat. More, and I'm in the back seat. One really stressful night I was in the highway median, trying to control the car telepathically as it vanished over the horizon.

I don't get car dreams. But this looks to me like it's also about control -- about not being able to run your life freely at present, about other things continually running into you and upsetting your chosen course.

Your current driving patterns sound just like my normal driving patterns. Similarly, some of your recent sleep patterns rather mirror mine, too. Hmmm. jaylake on chemo = garyomaha in normal life. Scary or a learning experience??

jAY i HAD TO QUIT DRIVING AFTR MY STROKE A YEAR AGO. I still mind having to ask for transortaatiion. i have worn out some of my fiends, but not Dave since he has an ironclad rule he shares with Billy Graham-- not being alone in a car with a femalae. For a pastor this is an excellent rult to have. There are those femalaes who might take advantage of him. Of course, not ME .

I used to dream about soaring off of freeway cloverleafs (leaves?) into the wild blue yonder when I was feeling trapped. But I think that's a flying/escape dream, not a car wreck dream.

Then again, maybe your subconscious wants to wreck the car so you can escape chemo?
