A reader reacts to Greencithra with a very personal take.

Reading by ARC Light — Andrew Wheeler on the sticky business of book reviews. Interesting stuff.

APOD with a lovely photo of the ISS and the crescent Earth

SMBC explains Christianism in one easy lesson

Massa's Gone, Ensign's a Sitting Senator — Your Liberal Media, hounding Democrats, protecting Republicans.

Except for blacks. And women. And natives. And … uh, never mind. — The past is a golden country, when you're an idiot.

The Ghost of Bobby Lee — An excellent piece by Ta-Nehisi Coates. For those of you who like to pretend the Civil War wasn't about slavery, the Southern states in their own words. It wasn't a noble cause, it was a vile cause, and I say this as son of the South.

How many books...the database says over 1,200, but that doesn't include the kids books that I have bought and didn't put in the database.

The old "Golden Age" nostalgia is only so when viewed from rose colored blinders. Every age does this to prior times forgetting the ugliness. In this case, a quick browse through something like Wisconsin Death Trip would probably put some of these myths to bed.

I know that in any other age I wouldn't have survived past age 20, possibly less than that.

And don't even get me going on slavery...

Too many books to tell.

Ah, yes, because if someone announces that they like puppies, it must be immediately pointed out that puppies become dogs, and some dogs are vicious and savagely bite people, and that therefore that awful puppy-lover must be in favor of vicious dogs biting people!

Or, you know, maybe they're not in favor of that.

That SMBC cartoon was great. And scarily accurate. Alas.
