My car was broken into overnight. No damage that I can find so far (it's still dark outside), as I leave the car unlocked to keep meth heads from cutting the convertible top to get in. Glove box rifled, presumably for CDs or something, but nothing seems to have been taken. So fairly minimal impact, unless Mother of the Child's car was also broken into.

Confidential to the universe: Really, the crap can stop any time.

I leave mine unlocked for the same reason (Mazda MX-5) and they still broke the side window and pried open the glovebox and the center console (both also unlocked, had they taken the time to try), doing something like $800 damage all told.

I had a friend who had a plastic-coated card made up that he'd put on the dash at night, something like "It's open. Nothing in it. Come on in and check if you want." His car wasn't broken into after that. Or if it was, they were so impressed by his politeness that they closed everything back up again when they were done.

Oh man. What did you do to piss the universe off? It clearly is annoyed with you. So sorry to hear. Glad no major damage done.

I hope this will make you smile, however briefly - a friend of mine was burgled and had his sound system and entire CD collection taken... except for 'Graceland' which was pointedly removed from the CD player and left for him on the bed.

Hey! That's one of my favorite albums!

My only CDs in the car are mix-and-burns from my iTunes library. I am glad I hadn't left my iPod in the glove box, though...

I lived in a flat once where I was burgled six times in six years. The last time, they broke in, discovered that I had absolutely nothing left worth taking, and generously left me a tobacco tin filled with screws...

Jeebus, Jay. I think it's time to put you and your family and all your stuff into a giant plastic hamster ball of protection.

A friend's jeep was broken into recently and all they took was the registration and his work badge, which just made it even creepier.
